I am blessed. I believe these blessings come from sharing what I have with others & by giving gratitude for what I have. I also let God know my needs and wants. Any loving Father wants his children to have their needs and wants met. I believe God is my loving Father in Heaven, and I hope to use this blog to share the information I have with others in that we may both be blessed from it.
Welcome to my page! I had a friend suggest I start a blog as she thinks of me often when she reads other blogs. So, thanks to Sara, I hope we all enjoy this journey.
"And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more." D & C 78:19
I have had a post I wanted to do for a few months. It isn't anything out of this world but I thought it was a bit funny and also disappointing.
A few months back, it was near my birthday. I went to get the mail and there was a nice pink card envelope addressed with cursive writing and I thought to myself, "Wow, people don't send cards much anymore, I am excited that someone actually sent me a card!" With facebook and texting, most people just send wishes those ways and a few will give you a call but only people older than me send cards. Also, no one much younger than me reads cursive well so I figured it had to be someone old.
Imagine my disappointment when I opened it and found out it was a junk mail advertisement for Dish TV!
I was so upset at the deceit in the advertising I ripped it in half and threw it in the garbage! I couldn't believe that even on the back of the card, it had a price for the US and Canada like a real card would have! Why would they go to such lengths to make it look like a card? Later that day, I was shopping at a local store and ran into a man from my church congregation and we were visiting, He wished me a Happy Birthday coming up. I told him, "thanks" and then commented that I thought I got an early card in the mail and then was disappointed when it was a "Dish" advertisement.
He laughed and said he did the same thing getting all excited that someone sent him a card in the mail and was disappointed when it turned out to be junk mail. I asked if it upset him more than just getting junk mail as it really upset me as it was so deceitful?
He said it really upset him as well so I think that Dish really did themselves a disservice by making it look like a card. Yes, they may have gotten people to open the envelope but I think it turned people off Dish more than just a cute and creative advertisement that would get your attention rather than one that gets their hopes up and then really disappoints.
It was weird that we both had the same reaction. I don't normally give junk mail a second thought, but when I got home from the store, I pulled the card out of the trash to make a blog post about it after hearing my friends reaction as well. I got another a few weeks later, but I was smarter by then knowing exactly what it contained. I saved both to share with you and it isn't a spectacular post, but after all, having 2222 posts on my blog is kinda a big deal, I thought I would celebrate with a card post...…. Actually, I just wanted to get them off my desk as I am cleaning for the big farewell party this weekend for Princess Five so posting about it means I can throw them out now!
I have so much going on this week that I can't seem to focus on one project. I have several of the girls arriving Thursday and then Princess One's family will arrive on Saturday.
I have the girls promises that they will go through the Halloween and Christmas decoration and then I can get rid of the rest as I don't want to keep things no one will want and won't be decking the house out with just me for the holidays and I can't put up any decoration other than kid friend when the grandchildren come, as they are small, so why keep a ton?
I have been collecting totes to sort out all the t-shirts for all the t-shirt quilts so I can keep them a bit more organized. I still have some of my mom's favorite clothes to make a life quilt from her favorites as well as many totes for the girls life shirts and still have mine I haven't had time to make into a quilt. I have also collected many for Prince One's quilt and some for the grandchildren so it will be nice to get those organized.
I have to say, that I have been busy sewing this year getting my dad's life quilt done for Valentines, and I got Princess Two's Dr. Seuss quilt done recently as well. I stayed up late the other night and got half of the rows sewn on Princess Five's Broadway quilt and hoped to get it finished in the past few days. But, with all the girls coming, and my family all coming from out of town for Princess Five's farewell this weekend, I have been hitting the house hard, and the yard some, but want to hit that hard as well.
I just don't know if I will be able to get it all done before they come. The projects that I think will take a few hours, have now taken days. I sanded the small table and another chest and thought I would just spray paint them to make it easy. The paint said it was a primer and paint in one, but I spent hours coating it with coat after coat and it looks grey. I can't get it to coat. I then primed it and sprayed it again and still, dark coming through and the paint soaking up.
I finally dug some of the paint I bought from Kmart 17 years or so ago out of the garage. (The link will take you to something I wrote in 2010 about getting that paint and how I used it in every room of my house.) I hadn't opened that gallon since purchasing it, and took it to Walmart tonight and had them shake it, surprisingly, it is still great! I am going to try and roll on the paint and see if I can get it to take a coat of paint. I wanted to have it finished for Princess One's family so they have places to put their stuff now that they have the new baby and will probably have two travel playpens up in the room.
I don't know how great my posts will be this week with so much going on, but just know, I am busy and happy that I will get to see all my family and grandchildren this week!
I bought this cool vintage table at a second hand store for $4. What a deal right? I saw that it had some water damage on the top but knew I could fix the bubbling to a degree and for such a cheap price, I could use wood putty after fixing it and then paint it and have a cute end table for super cheap!
I used a needle from my printer refill kit to squirt wood glue under the pulled / bubbled up vaneer. Once I get the vaneer soft putting glue in there, I then put thick plastic over the area after wiping off any excess glue. Once it is looking really saturated, put that thicker plastic that is flexible over the entire area and then place heavy books or if it is on an edge, you can use clamps to hold the veneer down.
Allow the item to dry overnight and once it is really dried, you can then sand the area. Due to the darker rim around the water damage, I won't be able to stain the top due to the staining but if the area isn't really dark, you can just sand and wood fill the area and lightly fine sand that and then stain it.
I am going to paint the entire thing cream and probably distress the edges of it since it is old and distress anyway. I finished putting wood fill in the cracks tonight and have sanded the entire thing down getting it ready to paint tomorrow. I am super excited to get this project done and off my "to do" list.
I really like the line of the bottom edge of the table and with it being so decorative, it will match the radio table Princess Five and I refinished from my mom's estate. Here is a link to that post. Feel free to ask questions if you have any. I just love taking something that is damaged and doesn't have value and making something beautiful from it! Doesn't the top now look so beautiful now that it is sanded and glued?! I am always hesitant to paint over wood things for some reason and kinda think I want to stain it but don't want to have to sand all the nooks and corners to stain it a lighter color so I have already purchased the paint so hopefully will be able to get to it tomorrow! Have a Blessed day!
Princess Five and I were watching a show a few months back and one of the members of the reality show would always say, "We're doing the most" and "Your the best" on the show.
When one of us is doing a good deed or working hard at something or helping another, Princess Five and I will point at each other and say, "Your doing the most" or "Your the best" and we both get a good laugh. Yesterday, I really did the most and I have been super sore today and wanted to get to bed early but am fighting a headache and so this post is going to be short. I am glad I was able to get some things done in the yard yesterday and to help a friend but this post is about what I can do.....
I hope you have the "Best" and most Blessed Day ever!!!!
I was up early today and all morning a song lyric kept running through my mind. The chanty / choppy section of "Red Rubber Ball" kept playing and at first I didn't think about it as my mind was on other thing but it kept going on and then Princess Five came into the room and I told her the song that was going on in my head. She likes the song and has it on one of her playlists.
It wasn't until I was telling her, mid sentence, that the song was going on in my head that I realized what the words are saying at that part in the song. "And I think its gonna be alright, yeah, the worst is over now," it just kept going through my head and I was telling her this and thought that maybe my mother is trying to tell me that the worst is over and that it will be alright! I have never had this song run through my mind before. Usually, I hear "the middle" and have posted about that a few times before. The thing I like about this song is that it is saying "the worst is over" when the other is positive but it felt like I was in the middle.
I forgot about it after that moment and I got on with my busy day. I wanted to work on the quilt but other things crept up and I never did get to sewing on the quilt. I have been trying to declutter some in the house as well as update a few things. It is a never ending thing when I find something I like, I replace it for something else. I was hanging something and was teasing Princess Five a bit and the song started going through my head again. I finished hanging the thing up, head to the kitchen to get my phone so I can look up the lyrics.
I couldn't believe that when I looked up the words, it was 11:11. Both sign that things will get better. If I knew how to get a screenshot on my phone, you would have the lyrics with 11:11 but I kept trying to figure it out as I have never used that feature on my phone and ended up having to go find my camera and it wasn't 11:11 by the time I got my camera and took a pictures but it was so cool to have the 1111 while I was reading the lyrics to the song as I believe someone is trying to tell me things will be "OK".
Early this afternoon, someone shared a video with me and it was "My Life" situation and it really was all true in my case except rather than taking months to show up, it was about a week..... I remember asking for a back rub about a week after we were married and I was told. "I don't need to do that now, I already got you." Divorce wasn't an option for me and I would never leave. Even when it was bad, I stayed because I made a commitment and would see that promise through. Since my situation was so difficult and lengthy, I told my girls that "nothing is forever when abuse is concerned as God wouldn't want you to stay with someone who would hurt you on purpose in any way."
I decided when I saw the video that I was going to share it with my girls so hopefully they can see the signs better than I did and so far, Princess One picked a GEM of a husband and father and I can only pray that my other girls are so blessed to find a good man to marry! I share the information with the girls but I want to post it so that I can refer to it if needs be for other women who may need a gentle nudge or reminder.
The video is by a man called Derrick Jaxn and I haven't watched other things he has posted, but for the most part, his video hit the nail on the head in my world..... I think all women should have to watch this BEFORE dating anyone so they can be aware of the signs... I know the signs were there, but I thought some of it was "sweet" before I knew the depth of it.
Paul Simon is writer of the song "Red Rubber Ball". He is so talented! Here are the lyrics to the wonderful "Red Rubber Ball" song that has lifted me up all day and I pray that "the worst is over" in my world and situation, and that I can focus on the warmth of the Sun / Son instead!
They had "The Cyrkle" record it first and that recording is probably the one that most of your would recognize so I will link to both songs here so that you can listen to the one you know.
I did listen to the Simon and Garfunkel one as a teen on one of their live concerts in Central Park tapes I have heard the other version but hadn't actually known the name of the group that recorded it first so looking it up was informational to me. Red Rubber Ball
I should have known you'd bid me farewell There's a lesson to be learned from this and I learned it very well Now I know you're not the only starfish in the sea If I never hear your name again, it's all the same to me
And I think it's gonna be all right Yeah, the worst is over now The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
You never care for secrets I confide For you I'm just an ornament, somethin' for your pride Always runnin', never carin', that's the life you live Stolen minutes of your time were all ya had to give
And I think it's gonna be all right Yeah, the worst is over now The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
The story's in the past with nothin' to recall I've got my life to live and I don't need you at all The roller-coaster ride we took is nearly at an end I bought my ticket with my tears, that's all I'm gonna spend
And I think it's gonna be all right Yeah, the worst is over now The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
Oh, oh, oh, I think it's gonna be all right Yeah, the worst is over now The mornin' sun is shinin' like a red rubber ball
Here is a link to my first 111 post and why it is important to me. If you look at all my "111" posts, you will see how I always see that number, especially when crazy things are going on in my life... My health has taken a weird turn and I am stressed about it so I am grateful for the song and the 111 today.....
I had to go back and look at some old videos I uploaded before my trip in August and I found a video that I made and didn't publish so I wanted to share this update on the parasite from back in August as it is good information.
I am sorry I missed posting this. I never did post about my trip as my life has been so crazy getting princess Five ready to leave on her mission and trying to spend as much time with her as I can and it takes so long to upload videos so I just avoid doing old or longer videos. Hopefully I will find the time to upload and share all those soon as I really have good information on our trip and wanted to share what I learned.
I had such the horrible day yesterday and didn't know if I would be able to sleep at night due to how much time I spent in bed with my migraine.
I was in bed for most of 2 nights and 2 days. It was so hard to get any rest waking with headaches ever time I would move, I would be in pain. I had it dark in the room and Princess Five gave me a great foot rub which helped me be able to get up and eat but then I went back to bed and slept until nearly 2 p.m. today!
I couldn't believe it when I woke up! I had the headache still while I slept and woke several times in pain but not enough to go and get more pills. I would go back to sleep and I slept enough that for the most part, the headache left. I did have pressure all day and it has gotten worse as the weather got worse toward evening hours but I am just glad to not have all the nausea I had yesterday!
I started on cutting the quilt square widths and it took all day but I finished late into the night as I wanted to get that done so I could start sewing as I missed an entire day of working on it with the headaches and storms. I can see Princess Five getting more and more excited about the quilt as she comes in and sees it take shape more and more. She mentioned that she is excited about it and we talked about the other quilts I have made and how most of them have gotten used.
I have collected shirts for a few years now to make many different quilts. When I was looking to make the Sesame Street quilt, I couldn't find any used shirts and had to get most new and it was super expensive. I had a similar problem when I was making the "super hero" quilt and bought many of the shirts for $5 each which made the quilts very expensive to make. Since then, I have decided to collect shirts from second hand stores for quilts that I think my grandchildren would like, or my kids or their spouses. I have purchased several hundred shirts and have them organized by subject as I can find them. Mostly, I will only buy them if they are $1 or $2 at second hand stores but have paid $3 or $4 if they are super cute or fit into a family quilt I have planned. I hope to make a fun quilt for each of my grandchildren as I have a quilt from each of my grandmothers that I LOVED while growing up. I figure it is something they can use and if I make enough of them, they can pick something they enjoy. So far, I have enough to do a Mickey / Minnie, Disney, Star Wars, Harley, Lego, Funny shirts, Tie Dye, Princess, Concert shirts, Christmas, Movies, and a life quilt from my mothers shirts and my life shirts. I figure I can make them and let the grandchildren use them when they visit and when they get baptized at age 8, they can pick their favorite quilt....
So far, I have done fairly well giving each of the girls "life quilts" as they finish up college and missions and each have a fun quilt or two with the Dr. Seuss, Snoopy, Super hero, Looney Tunes, Pooh, Sesame Street and soon to be "Broadway" quilt. Have a Blessed Day!
