If you have been reading this blog for awhile, you will remember the t-shirt quilt I made out of a "Pooh" collection of shirts, pants and shorts for one of my daughters. This is a similar thing but one that can't be finished until the child is older.
My oldest, now that she has finished her goals of 
high school, college, and serving a mission are complete, wanted to make her quilt. We have been saving all her t-shirts for years to do this. Each of my girls has a bag where we stick all the t-shirts that they got from craft days, parties, travel, school, clubs, college, sports teams and any other fun shirt we have made, bought or won.

From these shirts, we cut the largest front out first into a square. We made sure that the square is big enough for all the shirt designs to fit. You would hate to cut out a square size only to find out that the square is smaller than the other shirt designs and have half of a shirt on it.
I cut both the front
and back squares out at the same time because I don't want the shirt to rip or tear ruining the quilt. Each square has double thickness of t-shirt. If your design is on the back, use the back as the front piece and have the front then become the back piece if there is no design. If you want to use the front and back design from the shirt on the quilt, you can cut up an old t-shirt and use it for the back pieces as you can see on this pictures. A few of the back piece colored t-shirts are not the same color as the front. I used stained rag t-shirts for the back pieces when needed.

e two shirts with smaller logos on them, then you can cut one at the right size and then zig-zag the other on the blank spot from another shirt. Or, zig-zag the name, date or other smaller features from the arm etc on the front somewhere. You can see here that she bought two similar color shirts when on vacations and so I combined the two so she could have both memories on one square allowing for more shirts and memories to be on the quilt.

There were four shirts that had a logo on the left pocket. She didn't want to waste a whole square for that so she had me cut them in half 
and sew them down the middle so we made four shirts into two squares. I thought that the polo type shirts were cute with the buttons so instead of cutting it right down the middle, I sewed it off to the side which kept the buttons down the front adding texture and a different look. Also, this tie shirt was so long that I sewed it together in the middle making it shorter to fit the quilt.
