Cool Stuff From Kenya

Princess number 3 brought back some wonderful things from Kenya. She got herself this amazing spear. It is very sharp on both ends and she was saying how they won their Independence using them a few decades ago.

She brought me back the most beautiful nativity. The weird thing is that she had to order it from the convent where they stayed sight unseen as with most of the other items she purchased. They had a man that came and shared a few ideas of what they had and if they didn't order from him, they took a risk at not being able to get anything later as you never know when each vendor will be out or not and what they will have day to day or if it is safe to trust them.

The nativity has the funniest little animal rather than a donkey and sheep like most in America would have. It has a carved star which is unique.

She got some cute earrings which once again were just at one shop and they had no others and she had to take what she could find but the girls ended up having to pick numbers as they all liked the same pair of earrings. The favorites were the wire wrapped with banana leaves in a coil fashion. The orange looking earrings are horn or antlers of some kind died orange. The little animals are carved in bone and painted. The zebra stripped ones are coconut type shell painted. They are all unique.

She also brought us each back a native skirt. We aren't used to the same colors that they are but Princess number 3 wore her bright orange one today while she presented a slide show to the local Rotary club as a "Thank You" for sponsoring part of her way to go to Kenya.

She bought carved animals for a few people who donated more to her trip and one sister donated a larger sum and she bought their family a very cool carved knife with a wooden carved sheath. It is very cool. My sisters boys really like it.

For not having seen most of the stuff she bought, she did well. It is good to have her home!
