Shred the Competition - Part 3

Princess Four was trying to come up with something cute when she just pinched some fabric on the back and started cutting holes. She thought after making this shirt that it would have been cute to cut some paw shaped holes and I thought it would have been cute to cut paws in a trail up the back and off the shoulder or something. 

It still looked cute however and was a quick way to "shred" the shirt. 

The next way they did it was to cut strips evenly along the side and cut it up the side seam and then tie the sides together which makes the shirt more form fitting but uncomfortable with ties down the sides. 

For sleeves, the first example is just to cut it straight up the middle and tie it at the bottom. 

The second way was to cut the shoulder with two slits evenly spaced on the shoulder with it folded. 

Once it is open, take a little piece of the bottom hem that was cut out from the front or if you did holes, one of the pieces from the center of the hole and use Gorilla or Super glue to glue the piece around the center gather making it look like a bow. 
 
You can also do it by making one slit on the shoulder with it folded and then open it up and gather the entire bottom of the sleeve rather than making the bow in the center, it makes the bottom into a bow shape. 

I think they both look cute but think I like the bow in the center better. I think it would make it easier to move as well. 
 
The next one I think of as the "Prince Charming" sleeve as when it is on, it looks like the prince charming sleeve cap. 

This is done by placing the tips of the scissors and pinching a small piece of both the top and bottom layer of the shirt sleeve and making a little hole.

Then, place the bottom of the scissors into the hole and make even cuts from the bottom edge of the sleeve towards the top edge of the sleeve. 

Don't cut through the hem on the bottom of the sleeve or the seam on the top portion of the sleeve. When you stick it on, it looks like the "prince charming" sleeve cap. 
 
You could even gather the center of those cuts with some strips of fabric as well making them look like sideways bows. 

The bottom of the shirt can just look shredded by making vertical slits at different intervals and cutting them all the way through the hem. You could cut out the hem or leave it. I kinda like it left as it is a bit heavier than the fabric which makes it hang straighter and not twist like those without a hem. 
 
I did a kinda "prince charming" bottom to a shirt by making vertical slits down the back but didn't cut through the hem. It keeps the shirt in place and keeps the entire shirt from twisting but looks a bit different than that hanging one without the hem. 
 
For a variation on that, we took small pieces of the hem and gathered them around the tops and bottoms of the strips at different intervals.

It makes it look like a fence or decoration of some kind. 

Then there were variations on the sleeves. 


We shredded the sleeve through the hem on the first one and then just tied them all at the bottom. 

The next one , we thought it would be cool to add more color so we took some of the white t-shirt strips and tied them off on the bottom of the sleeve. 


You could actually use the white or a different colored ribbon or t-shirt to make the bows on the shoulder sleeve or the variations of the bows on the back more visual.

We did this in a hurry and it was ok but I do think if we took more time and added beads and more colored ribbons, we could make it really cute and shredded. The options are endless as to what the kids can do with them. 

I am just grateful I could come up with a way to make money with the old t-shirts and get Princess Four out of debt with the Student Body fund so she will have some funds this year. 

I have to tell you how careful we were with the shirts this year. We didn't put any year dates on them and made sure to order the right amount. 

My guess is they won't be making either of those mistakes again at the school anytime soon. 

I am grateful I have been blessed with the gift of creativity. I used to think it was something everyone has but realized years ago that not everyone thinks the way I do. 

Just this past week my sister-in-law sent me an email sharing how my different thinking has influenced her and given her things to think about. Isn't it wonderful that we all have different talents and abilities that make life interesting!
